Have you ever watched TV and wondered, “Where are all the vegans and vegetarians?!” Seriously, where are they? I kept asking myself that same question until I couldn’t take it anymore and had to find out. Lucky for you, you don’t have to watch hours and hours of television to find out (woe is me, right?). All you have to do is read this blog post!
I’ve compiled a list of vegans and vegetarians in pop-culture, including my takeaway after doing this article. Remember to share this article to spread the word on some of these famous vegetarians.
Vegetarians and Vegans in TV Shows
Lisa Simpson
No cartoon character has represented the vegetarian flag longer and harder than Lisa Simpson. Now going into its 28th season, Lisa became a vegetarian way back in the Fifth episode of Season 7, “Lisa the Vegetarian, “ after befriending a lamb.
Although not a full on vegan, she does make mention of converting after she meets a level 5 vegan.
Kwai Chang Caine (Kung Fu)
David Carradine’s portrayal of the Shaolin Master, Kwai Chang Caine, became one of TVs most awesome heroes because his moral code was unbreakable. He chose peace over fighting (though if it came down to it, he could more than handle himself), so it’s no surprise that he would be conscientious enough to be a vegan.
We can all learn from Caine’s ways.

MacGyver
This one is up for heated debate among MacGyver fans. MacGyver has been known to eat meat, but over the course of the show he’s adopted a more vegetarian diet, so many believe he became a vegetarian, and possibly even vegan throughout the course of the show.
Sometimes I feel like I need to be a MacGyver to make a decent meal when I go to a non-vegan dinner party.
Torpedo (G.I. Joe)
Great news, everyone! You could buy your very own vegetarian action figure.
Torpedo was known for being a strict vegetarian, so next time some tough guy gives you trouble for being a vegetarian, go ahead and tell him he can take it up with this marine.
Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Rounding out the list I needed to find a super vegan, and luckily the Simpsons delivered once again. Apu played a big part in Lisa’s turn to vegetarianism after he revealed his own veganism. He even stocks the Kwik-E-Mart with tofu dogs in place of regular hot dogs, since no one can tell the difference.
Here’s a moment between Lisa and Apu we can all relate to:
Takeaways:
There aren’t enough vegans and vegetarians in TV!
